Event Photography Workflow

Event photography — conferences, parties, corporate events — produces a mix of candid moments, group shots, and detail photos. This workflow shows how to use Phosor to cull an event shoot efficiently.
Overview
Event shoots often produce hundreds of photos across different lighting conditions and locations. Phosor's keyboard-driven culling lets you quickly separate the best shots and distribute them to organized folders.

Categories reset on restart
Category configuration is not persisted between sessions. You'll need to set this up each time you launch Phosor. See Categories.
Step-by-Step
1. Open the Event Folder
Open the root folder containing all event photos. Phosor recursively scans nested directories.
2. Configure Categories
Set up the categories above with keybindings, colors, and output folders.
3. Cull Candid Moments
- Use Single Mode for deliberate evaluation of key candid moments.
- Use metadata (⌘M / Ctrl+M) to check exposure in varying lighting conditions.
Check ISO and shutter speed
Event venues often have challenging lighting. Use the metadata panel to verify ISO and shutter speed when evaluating noise and motion blur.
4. Cull Group Shots
- Use zoom and pan to check focus on faces in group photos.
- Toggle the composition grid (⌘G / Ctrl+G) to evaluate framing.
5. Cull Detail Shots
- Use Single Mode for careful evaluation of detail shots (decor, signage, food).
- Use undo (⌘Z / Ctrl+Z) to correct any mistakes.
6. Cull Sequences
- Use Shift Burst for rapid sorting through sequences of similar shots.
- Use Continue Mode (⌘B / Ctrl+B) for extended burst sorting sessions.
7. Execute the Move
Once all photos are sorted, click Execute → to move them to their respective output folders.
Verify before executing
The move is irreversible. Review your category counts before executing.
Tips for Event Photographers
- Varying lighting: Use the metadata panel to check exposure settings across different venues.
- Group shots: Zoom in to verify focus on all faces in group photos.
- Sort in passes: First pass for rejects, second pass for keepers, third pass for highlights.
