Burst Mode
Beta Status
Phosor is currently in an Internal Beta stage. Features may change before the public release. Performance may occasionally be inconsistent depending on hardware, image formats, and library size. Unexpected bugs may still occur. Feedback from beta testers is highly appreciated.
Burst mode enables rapid, repeated sorting while a key is held. It is designed for quickly flagging sequences of similar photos, such as a burst of shots from the same moment.
Shift Burst (Temporary)
Hold Shift + any category key to temporarily enter burst mode without toggling Continue Mode. Release Shift to stop.
When to use Shift Burst
Shift Burst is useful for quickly sorting a sequence of similar photos without changing the global mode. It's the fastest way to handle a burst of shots from the same moment.
How Burst Mode Works
- In Single mode, pressing a category key assigns the photo and advances.
- In burst mode, holding a category key repeatedly assigns photos at the configured interval.
- If the current photo is already assigned to the pressed category, it simply advances without re-assigning.
- Releasing the category key stops the burst.
- All sorting actions (single and burst) are recorded in the undo history.
Duplicate sort detection
If you press a category key for a photo that's already assigned to that category, Phosor simply advances to the next photo without re-assigning. This prevents duplicate history entries and speeds up navigation.
Burst Interval
The burst interval controls how quickly photos are assigned during burst sorting.

Adjusting the Interval
You can adjust the burst interval by:
- Typing a value directly into the input field.
- Dragging the input field horizontally (scrubbable).
- Using arrow keys while the input field is focused.
Scrubbable input
The burst interval input field is scrubbable — click and drag horizontally to adjust the value. This is faster than typing or using arrow keys.
Current Limitations
- Burst mode does not pause when reaching the last photo — it wraps around.
- There is no visual indicator for which key is currently in burst mode beyond the toast notification.
- Burst mode is automatically disabled if the assigned category is deleted.
Rapid mode toggling
Rapidly toggling Continue Mode while a burst is active may leave the burst in an inconsistent state. Test toggling mid-burst.
